Position Summary:

Glenelg Country School is a coeducational independent school located in Howard County, Maryland and has approximately eight hundred students 2-year-old through twelfth grade.  GCS offers a competitive salary including a full benefit package. 

The Head Varsity Golf Coach (co-ed) is responsible for coaching, mentorship, skill and techniques instruction, and building a sense of community within the team, program, and school. The Head Varsity Golf Coach works under the guidance and in coordination with the Co-Directors of Athletics in achieving the school and program wide goals.

 

Typical Education and Experience:

Previous High School or College Level playing or coaching experience is preferred.

 

Overview of Essential Functions:

– attend all team activities (matches, practices, gatherings, meetings)

– ride or drive school provided transportation with team

– weekly email communication with players and families during the season

-attend all required athletic department or league meetings

-responsible for all athletes, equipment, and facilities used while coaching

-able to teach high school athletes fundamental skills and strategy for golf

-coordinate with local golf courses for school practices and matches

Interested individuals should possess good communication and leadership skills.

 

Typical Level of Interaction:

This position requires a high level of direct interaction with high school athletes, parents, school administrators and faculty. There is also a high level of direct interaction with members of other communities such as officials, staff from opposing schools, and golf course members and staff.

-Good driving record and ability to drive school minibus

-Knowledge of fundamental golf skill and strategy

 

Administration:

Coaches are responsible for reporting game results to the Athletic Department as well as responding to emails within 24 hours when in season.

All prospective employees must be able to clear background checks, as required by the State of Maryland.

 

Physical Demands:

-standing for long periods of time

-riding a school bus long periods of time

-driving a minibus

-must be able to carry 25 pounds

 

Work Environment:

This job is primarily outdoors in all types of weather: heat, cold, rain, and sometimes snow.
