Glenelg Country School seeks an Upper School Humanities educator for the 2023-2024 school year. The teaching assignment will include a combination of core Humanities courses with a focus on ancient world history in a department particularly strong in the integration of literature and art with political, cultural, and social history. Versatility in Humanities-based subjects is important, and interest or experience in teaching ancient world history will be particularly advantageous. The successful candidate will bring to GCS a love of working with adolescents, a collaborative, skills-based approach to teaching, and the ability to differentiate instruction among groups of students with varying knowledge and skills. In addition, commitment to a student-centered learning environment that integrates appropriate educational technologies with success for a wide range of learners is essential. The Humanities Department will continue its implementation of non-Western texts, art, and perspectives in the years ahead as it moves beyond the horizons of its traditional curriculum to become more global in scope and depth. GCS is a thriving community built on the holistic development of its students, and all full-time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of eight to ten students for their entire Upper School career.
