Upper School Mathematics Educator

Position Summary:

Glenelg Country School in Ellicott City, MD seeks an Upper School math educator for the 2025-2026 school year. The teaching assignment will include several sections of math at multiple levels in grades 9-12 in a department noted for its vigorous instruction and collaborative culture. The successful candidate will bring to GCS a love of working with adolescents, a skills-based approach to teaching, and a desire to play a significant role in the life of a school in and out of the classroom. The importance of integrated learning at GCS and the evolution of the STEM and electives programs will make the ability to explore interdisciplinary activities and applications an important advantage. Comfort teaching a wide range of learners and integrating digital technologies to enhance the classroom experience are also important. GCS is a thriving community built on the holistic development of its students. All full-time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of ten to eleven students for their entire Upper School career. 

 

Education and Experience:
A B.A. or B.S. degree is required. Experience working with middle school or high school students is a significant advantage.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Instruction in mathematics
  • Development of a sense of partnership among students and between students and the teacher
  • Assessment and evaluation of student progress
  • Implementation of teaching strategies, activities and approaches to learning
  • Exercise of good judgement and maturity
  • Supervision of student behavior and coverage of colleagues’ classes as needed

 

Typical Level of Interaction:

  • Daily class meetings with students
  • Daily interactions with department colleagues
  • Monthly department and faculty meetings
  • Monthly professional development meetings

The employee is also regularly required to climb one flight of stairs and must be able to carry 25 pounds.

Compensation:

GCS offers a competitive salary and full benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan, and leave benefits. The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $70,000.
