Position Summary:

Glenelg Country School seeks an Upper School Physical Education teacher for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year with the possibility of continuing to a permanent position. The teaching assignment is six sections of Grade 9 Physical Education, which includes a mix of trimester classes in team sports, strength and conditioning, and health and wellness. Additional coaching interest and experience, especially in cross-country or track and field, will be significant advantages. The successful candidate will bring to GCS a love of working with adolescents, a personal and pedagogical commitment to lifelong health, and a high level of comfort teaching to a wide range of students. Previous experience with middle school or high school students will be a significant advantage. GCS is a thriving independent school community built on the holistic development of its students. All full-time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of ten or eleven students for their entire Upper School career.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Instruction in the fundamentals of team sports, strength and conditioning and health and wellness
  • Supervision of adolescents engaged in physical activity indoors and outdoors
  • Development of a sense of partnership and teamwork among students and between students and teacher
  • Implementation of teaching strategies, activities and approaches to learning
  • Assessment and evaluation of student progress
  • Active collaboration with colleagues in the support of students and the wider educational program
  • The exercise of good judgment and maturity

Required Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience working with middle or high school-age students in a physically active environment is an advantage.

Salary Range: $50,000 – $65,000
