Music

Musical exploration for all ages.

Glenelg Country School’s music program offers each student opportunities to explore and expand their knowledge, skills, and musical passions both in the classroom and on the stage. Music is an integral part of the school’s curriculum, beginning with our youngest Dragons.

Little Dragons (Ages 2 and 3)

Our youngest Dragons explore music through singing, movement, and play. Students participate in music class once a week and perform in the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and Grandparents and Friends Day.

Lower School (Pre-Kindergarten–Grade 5)

Students receive classroom music instruction twice a week through a Kodály based approach. A variety of performances occur throughout the year including the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and Grandparents and Friends Day. Fourth and fifth grader students can also participate in Bell Choir, Orff Ensemble, Advanced Chorus, and Band. All Fifth grade students take part in the end of the year full-scale musical production.

Middle School (Grades 6–8)

Students continue their exploration of music through regular coursework in Choir, Band, or Music Appreciation. Concerts throughout the year include Winter and Spring Concert, Grandparents and Friends Day, Celebration of the Arts, and an adjudicated performance/ ensemble competition at Hershey Park. Over 75% of our Middle School students participate in either Band or Choir.

Upper School (Grades 9–12)

Our program provides opportunities to participate in smaller contemporary instrumental groups and larger choral and instrumental ensembles at intermediate to advanced levels. Performance opportunities include seasonal concerts, the Spring Musical, Evening of the Arts, variety shows, and a competition at Hershey Park. Students may also choose to enroll in Music theory courses, including preparation for the AP exam.
