Lead PE Teacher

Glenelg Country School is a coeducational independent school located in Howard County, Maryland has approximately eight hundred students, 2-year-old through twelfth grade. GCS offers a competitive salary including a full benefit package. 

 
Typical Education and Experience: 

 
A bachelor’s degree in education with a specialty in physical education is required with a teaching certification/degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an elementary classroom is preferred.  


Overview of essential functions:
 

 

  1. Instruction and Skill Development: The ideal candidate would instruct students in physical activities that develop motor skills and enhance coordination. This involves teaching various sports, games, and exercises, ensuring that activities are age-appropriate and cater to different skill levels.

  2. The ideal candidate would be responsible for promoting physical fitness and educating students about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. This includes creating routines and activities that improve cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and endurance.

  3. Safety Management: The ideal candidate would ensure the safety of all students during physical activities. They also need to be prepared to respond to any accidents or emergencies that may occur during class.

  4. Social and Emotional Development: The ideal candidate would support social and emotional learning. Teachers encourage teamwork, cooperation, and fair play among students. 

 

Key Skills and Attributes 

 

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, practical oral and communication skills, and experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction.
