Middle School Choral Music

Reports To: Head of Middle School

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

 

Position Summary:

Glenelg Country School, a coeducational independent school (grades Pre-K-12) in Howard County, Maryland, seeks a full-time Middle School Choral Music teacher for the 2024-2025 school year to begin August 2024. 

 

Typical Education and Experience:

The successful candidate will have a music education degree with experience directing developing choirs, strong musical theater experience, piano proficiency, and ability to work closely with the instrumental program and performing arts faculty.   

 

Overview of Essential Functions:

  •  teaches music appreciation and choir classes
  • organizes student performances
  • directs the Fall MS Musical
  • advises a small group of students
  • coaching a team and/or sponsoring an activity each trimester
  • performs other duties within the Middle School as part of a grade-level team.

The ideal candidate is an energetic and creative educator who demonstrates enthusiasm for working with students in grades 6-8, a passion for music, and contributes to a positive culture with a strong emphasis on building positive relationships with students, staff, and the GCS community. Ability to develop and implement daily lessons that are both rigorous and engaging as well as strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate are musts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to listen, physically direct, and speak. The employee is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, compute, handle, clean spills, tie shoe, zipper coats or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus with screens, white boards, printed material, and ability to see children in detail. The employee must be able to lift at least thirty pounds. The employee is also regularly required to climb two flights of stairs.
