Summer Camp Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Glenelg Country School (GCS) is currently accepting applications for a camp nurse to for our Summer in the Country program. Located in Ellicott City, Maryland, our school provides a range of camps for children in Pre-K through 10th grade. Camps feature a variety of activities including sports, baking, hiking, and swimming (GCS has a pool on campus). Candidates must be comfortable providing primary health, first aid, and emergency care to campers. They will need knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, and severe allergies. Additionally, they will need to know how to administer insulin through an insulin injection pen or insulin pump and emergency medications such as respiratory inhalers and EpiPens. The Summer in the Country camp is a six-week program and will be running from June 15, 2026, to July 24, 2026, Monday to Friday. Camp hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Please note that the camp will be closed on June 19 and July 3, 2026, due to holidays.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered.
  • Provides care for campers and staff illness and accidents.
  • Administers care based on individual health care plans and individual emergency care plans.
  • Serves as liaison between the home and the camp regarding camper health concerns.
  • Documents all encounters in Summer in the Country’s online camp management software system, CampBrain.
  • Follows communicable disease control procedures and informs administration and/or parents regarding camp exclusion and readmission.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold current State of Maryland license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field preferred.
    • May consider Certified Nursing Assistant who is a Certified Medication Technician (CMT) who would work under the supervision of one or more RNs.
  • Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: Asthma management and inhaler use, diabetes, insulin injection pen and insulin pumps, seizure management, severe allergy management and emergency medication administration (EpiPen, etc.).
  • Experience in any of the following settings preferred: School nursing, pediatrics, community, or public health nursing.
  • Current certification in first aid/CPR.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer and/or electronic health record skills.

 

LICENSING/CREDENTIAL AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Maryland State Registered Nurse License or Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • Valid first aid/CPR certificate.
  • State of Maryland fingerprint clearance and background check.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This position pays $28.00 – $30.00 per hour and there are no benefits associated with this position.
