Fifth Grade Teacher

 

Glenelg Country School (GCS) is an independent day school serving students age 2 – grade 12. Our mission is to cultivate a diverse community of learners who discover, contribute, thrive, and excel.  

 

 

The Lower School seeks a full-time Fifth Grade Teacher (10-month) for the 2026-2027 school year.  The school welcomes candidates with a sense of teamwork who want to work in a school community. Glenelg Country School (GCS) requires a strong commitment toward working closely with students and colleagues in and out of the classroom. At GCS, successful candidates participate in the school’s overall life by contributing to service learning, clubs, enrichment classes, field trips, and faculty committees. In keeping with its mission, Glenelg Country strives to attract faculty and staff who embrace diversity of background, culture, and thought. The teacher reports to the Lower School Head.

 

Essential Functions:  

  • Responsibilities include teaching core math, language arts, and social studies academics.   
  • Higher-level math experience is desirable.   
  • Complete progress reports including a written narrative for three trimesters.   
  • Plan and implement parent teacher conferences.  
  • Work with grade level coordinator and team members collaboratively.   
  • Have a working knowledge of project-based learning approach with experience. 
  • Additional responsibilities include regular faculty meetings, the supervision of students during faculty duties, recess, and dismissal. 

 

Desired Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field; a master’s degree is desirable.  
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a lower or elementary school setting is preferred.   
  • Experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction.

Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to listen, physically direct, and speak. The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to compute, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is also regularly required to climb one flight of stairs and must be able to carry 25 pounds. 

 

Compensation Range: $55,000 – $75,000. GCS offers a robust benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan, and generous leave and holidays.
