THE FRICTION MAXXING ADVANTAGE:

MODERN TOOLS FOR PARENTS IN A HYPER-CONNECTED WORLD

Dr. Shreya Hessler

Tuesday, November 3 | 7 p.m.

Mulitz Theater

Free and open to the public!

Children grow by stumbling, and then by discovering they can get back up. Dr. Hessler, psychologist and founder of The MINDset Center, has spent two decades arguing that resilience is built in those unpolished moments rather than in the highlight reel, and that a culture organized around optimization quietly removes them. She opens the series with what friction actually does in a developing mind, how much of it has disappeared from a childhood increasingly lived on screens, and how parents can tell the friction that builds a child from the kind that calls for support. That distinction matters, and it anchors everything that follows this year.

SUMMER MAXXING:

CREATING HUMAN FIRST EXPERIENCES WITH YOUR FAMILIES

Dr. Shreya Hessler

Ten weeks is the largest block of unstructured, embodied time a family still controls, and the easiest to fill in or scroll away. Dr. Hessler returns to turn the year’s argument into a plan. What kids actually gain from unsupervised hours, why boredom does something that enrichment cannot, and how to build a summer around the richest parts of being human: making things, being outdoors, working alongside adults, long days with other kids and no agenda. Not a detox, and not a schedule. A summer chosen rather than defaulted into. You will leave with decisions to make, which is why this one lands in May.
