African American Studies Class Hosts Pop-Up Restaurant

Glenelg Country School’s Upper School African American Studies Honors class turned their classroom into a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and cuisine. Students hosted a dynamic pop-up restaurant event, showcasing their culinary talents by preparing an array of authentic dishes that highlighted diverse cultural traditions. The atmosphere was alive with energy as students took pride in sharing their creations, inviting peers and faculty to enjoy a feast of flavors.
This unique event wasn’t just about serving delicious food—it was a journey of cultural exploration and discovery. As part of the project, students studied the significance of Kwanzaa, a celebration that honors African heritage, culture, and values. Through hands-on learning, they gained a deeper understanding of Kwanzaa’s principles, including unity, self-determination, and collective work, which resonated throughout the day’s activities.
