Dungeons & Dragons is a classic role-playing tabletop game that is a cooperative story anyone can play for years to come! In this introductory session, campers will learn to create their character and play as them in a fantasy world. They will use critical thinking to overcome situations in a team environment, use math skills under pressure, create their own world within the fantasy limits of the game, and have a lot of fun. Come join our out-of-this-world adventure!

In this session, experienced players will continue to expand on their knowledge of role-playing games, create their characters, play them in a fantasy world, and even build their own game adventure! They will use critical thinking to overcome situations in a team environment, use math skills under pressure, create their own world within the fantasy limits of the game, and have a lot of fun. This camp is designed for players who have attended Adventure Gaming D&D in previous summers, have completed D&D I, or have previous role-playing gaming experience.

Learn about the musical elements of creating a great improvised solo while improving your skills on your instrument. Participants will learn about the skills needed to play in a small jazz group through listening, playing, and exploring music theory. Students should have at least two years of experience on their instrument and be able to read traditional music notation (tablature is acceptable for guitar and bass). Acceptable instruments include piano, guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, French horn, baritone, and tuba.

Have you ever dreamed of being an author and writing a book? Campers enrolled in this camp will have the chance! Take an idea, brainstorm, develop it, draw accompanying illustrations, and turn it into a book. Campers’ stories will come alive during this week of writing fun!

Campers will play a variety of board games and other tabletop games throughout the week, some familiar, and some new!  Strategic games, puzzle games, cooperative games, and more will have campers working their brains while having fun! Campers are welcome to bring games to share!

Traverse continents and oceans! Each week campers will explore a different continent. From South America to Asia, campers will participate in a variety of activities while exploring language, cultural traditions, food, and music as they learn about diverse regions around the world. Codemoji’s Code It program’s mission is simple: teach students to enjoy all things related to coding and the web while building problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Our teachers deliver clear and entertaining instruction to ensure students have fun while learning complex coding skills using emojis that represent HTML text, which lowers the barriers to new coders and increases their excitement and understanding of computer science. Students build animations, websites, and video games; explore multiple coding languages; program robots; create STEM-based projects both on and offline and are encouraged to share their projects when they get home. Students also work with interactive circuit boards to understand the basics of currents and work with their teacher to build a handful of fun hands-on projects. Ready to crack the code? In this interactive camp, children will learn about cryptography, cipher systems, and secret codes used throughout history. We will explore different methods of code making and create some of our own! Children will practice cracking the code on a variety of messages and puzzles, including cryptograms, crosswords, cipher wheels, pigpen ciphers, and more!

Week 3 (July 3– 7) (No camp Tuesday, July 4)

Calling all creative campers for an experience that will challenge your minds and your taste buds! Each day, campers are faced with a basket of mystery ingredients that they will have to combine in order to create dishes that prove to be creative, attractive, and, most importantly, delicious! Campers will have a great time collaborating with teammates and experimenting with food. We’ll see whose dishes come out on top and whose will be on the chopping block!

During this delicious camp, the campers will learn several techniques and the art of baking cupcakes of all flavors. They will learn to measure, mix, bake and decorate cupcakes. The main focus of this session will be to inspire the campers to use their imagination and skills and be as creative as possible. At the end of the week, they will be divided into teams. Each team will be responsible for creating two different cupcakes for a judged bake-off. The winning team will receive a special prize!

Dive into the wonderful world of cooking! Campers will learn basic measurement skills and food prep procedures. Mystery box challenges will be presented just like on the Jr. Master Chef television show! Campers will cook creatively and end the week with a feast like no other. Join us for a tasty, good time! Extra! Extra! Write all about it! Be a staff writer or photographer for our summer camp newspaper. Campers will work on computers creating stories about our campers, counselors, and the world around us. During this one-week session, campers will also have the opportunity for some real-world investigation as they identify a real-world problem in our camp community and take action to help be a part of the solution. Campers will take photos capturing camp life and stay on top of composition and grammar skills while learning what it takes to be a journalist!

Does your student want to learn more about how video games work? In Game On, students will take their skills to the next level while learning about coding basics. Graphic novel readers, authors, illustrators, and enthusiasts are welcome! In this camp, we will be learning about the process of making a graphic novel or comic and ways to bring our creative ideas to life. Some topics we will cover are story mapping, designing panels, and using visual techniques such as speech bubbles, motion lines, emanata, and more! Participants will get the chance to create their own stories and share them with peers. No previous experience is necessary!

Master your Lego building skills. Just like the hit show, this camp will have daily Lego building challenges and team competitions. We will, also, get creative using molds to make our own unique Lego bricks out of different items. This Lego themed camp will be hands on building fun!

Come and learn to knit! During this week of knitting camp, children will learn the basics of knitting such as understanding yarn and needles, casting on and off, and creating basic stitches. After learning the basics, they will begin working on a fun project. Knitters of all skill levels will enjoy this engaging camp! 

Feed your brain with an exploration of basic math skills! Campers develop problem-solving skills by sorting with candy, creating patterns using potatoes, and cooking with fractions. Come and discover the delicious world of math as we munch our way through lessons!

Calling all creative friends! Join us for a week of creative, colorful fun where young artists will explore a variety of painting techniques, including acrylic pouring, abstract watercolor, and Plein air. Campers will learn how to make “magic” using a variety of techniques and tools! They will use real artists’ tools like fine quality papers, real canvases, paints, and paintbrushes. They will learn to slow down, be thoughtful in their choices, and how to care for their materials. Make room on your walls for several masterpieces!

Campers will learn to be “sew fabulous” during this fun and hands-on camp! Sewing enhances self-esteem, sense of accomplishment, following directions, fine motor skills, and creativity. Campers will work collaboratively and individually on a variety of techniques as they begin to learn the process of working with fabrics, keeping a lost art alive!

A search for “slime” on YouTube turns out over 6 million results! This global do-it-yourself craze is hitting GCS this summer! Unicorn Slime, Pom Pom Slime, Mermaid Slime, Princess Slime, and more, will get campers excited for some messy fun! In addition to researching and making all kinds of slime, campers will create recipe books and decorate unique containers for each creation.

Let’s learn about mindfulness and calming strategies this summer. We will do this by exploring our 5 senses, taking 5 senses walks, creating crafts to help teach and learn different calming strategies. We will also sing songs and learn yoga poses to help us be calm. We will also play games and take turns to help us learn calming strategies and to be mindful. This will be a cool calming week as we learn together.
