International Week Brings the World to the Lower School
Danielle Peterson
The Manor House at Glenelg Country School was alive with color, sound, and flavor as the Lower School hosted its annual International Week—a celebration that transported students on a cultural journey around the world. This year’s event was the most expansive yet, with families proudly representing over 40 countries from five continents, showcasing the diversity that makes up the school community.
Students took center stage as they transformed their exhibits into immersive learning experiences. From the bustling markets of Morocco to the snowy peaks of Switzerland, each display provided a glimpse into the customs, history, and daily life of different nations. Interactive presentations featured traditional attire, arts and crafts, global games, and fascinating facts that brought each culture to life. The excitement didn’t stop there—tables were also filled with a delicious variety of international snacks, allowing students to experience flavors from around the world.
One of the highlights of the event was the interactive passport activity. Each student carried a personalized passport and collected stamps as they traveled from booth to booth, expanding their knowledge of different countries with every stop. The hands-on nature of the experience encouraged curiosity and engagement, as students eagerly asked questions, practiced new words in different languages, and gained a deeper appreciation for the world beyond their own.
Beyond the fun and festivities, International Week serves as a cornerstone of Glenelg Country School’s commitment to fostering global awareness and inclusivity. By exploring diverse cultures, students develop empathy, an understanding of different perspectives, and a broader view of the world. The event reinforces the school’s mission to prepare students to be open-minded, culturally aware citizens who celebrate differences and embrace diversity.
As the event concluded, it was clear that International Week is more than just a celebration—it’s a meaningful educational experience that leaves a lasting impact on students. Glenelg Country School is proud to uphold this tradition and looks forward to continuing its mission of inspiring young learners to be global citizens.
