Steelpan Educator Brings Island Vibes to the Upper School

Sherwin Thwaites, a steelpan educator and musician, plans the instrument during the Upper School's lunch in February 2024.

In honor of Black History Month, the Upper School welcomed Sherwin Thwaites, a steelpan educator and musician. Students and faculty were captivated by the delightful sounds and happily joined in singing and dancing to familiar tunes played by Thwaites during lunch. The Black Student Union shared insightful information with the Upper School about the origins of the steelpan drum and its significance in Trinidad and Tobago, highlighting its connections to the African Diaspora. It was a vibrant and culturally enriching experience for the entire Upper School community.
