The Making of The Haunted Trail

GCS Staff

The Upper School’s Business Strategies class, taught by Chris Shematek ’98, continued a Glenelg Country School tradition this fall by designing and creating Family Day‘s annual Haunted Trail. This student-led project, a mainstay of the class, places students into teams such as operations and finance to mirror the planning and collaboration they will encounter in real-world business situations. Students designed the project’s evaluation rubric and took charge of communications, publicity, and pricing. The class built the “trail” (a wood-framed tent), using time before school and on weekends to complete the project over several weeks. In addition to being a tangible contribution to the Family Day experience, the project exemplifies the school’s commitment to hands-on, interdisciplinary learning.
